THE owners of Hartlepool power station have reported a slump in profits.
But British Energy says its hoping for an improved trading performance over the rest of the year.
Bosses say the result for the six months to September show earnings were down from £511m to £257m.
They say the results were partly down to the impact of having power down at Hartlepool and Heysham 1 power stations.
It meant British Energy's nuclear output fell to 19.2 terawatt hours (TWh), compared with 27.8 TWh a year earlier.
Returning the Hartlepool and Heysham 1 stations to service is likely to cost £125m in the current financial year.
More than two million man hours have been spent on work at the two stations.
