Hundreds brave cold for fireworks extravaganza

HUNDREDS of people braved the cold to see a firework extravaganza.
The Guy Fawkes' Night display at Peterlee's Helford Road sports ground proved to be a hit – despite the lack of a bonfire.

Traditionally a large bonfire is one of the highlights of the Peterlee celebrations. But because of work at a nearby £2m sports centre, organisers decided a fire would be too risky. Instead drummers put on a show to keep the crowd entertained while the fireworks lit up the sky.
